What license should we use?

I woule recommend the Zero-clause BSD or 0BSD license. It’s basically the ISC but without all the verbiage.

Zero-Clause BSD

I personally use the 0BSD for all my projects because it is the simplest and easiest to understand FOSS license that actually legally has legs. Stuff like WTFPL or Unlicense or Public Domain dedications aren’t as juridically solid. See this explanation for more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkJkyMuBm3g&t=1528s

Also IANAL but I am pretty sure MIT and 0BSD are fully compatible, so pulling stuff from Nix won’t pose any issue.

i think it might be better to combine the gpl options as this could easily split the vote for little reason

i would also recommend adding the MPL as a middleground of copyleft and permissive, as that’s really lacking here and something i think many could want (including maybe myself :p)

Hum that would be cool. I think to solve this problem I am going to close this poll. Create a new announcement post such that this poll is not stuck at the bottom of this post and hopefully get more traction.

Please see Voting for a licence
